Workshop: Structural transformation of the countryside
Taking place on 24 - 25 October 2019 in Berlin, the international workshop aims at examining changes of social structures that shape rural life and livelihoods and the subjectivities of rural people. The workshop will be organized in for thematic panels: political economy of rural change; rural politics in times of crisis; rural policies and structural transformation; and movements, subjects and strategies.

New study on artisanal mining in Burkina Faso: Presentation on 18 September 2019 in Ouagadougou
GLOCON and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation jointly issue a new study on artisanal mining. The authors Issaka Sawadogo, Ouiry Sanou and Hermann Moussa Konkobo examine the production conditions in artisanal gold mining at several mining sites in two provinces of Burkina Faso based on extensive qualitative and quantitative surveys. Furthermore, they provide a critical analysis of the current efforts to formalize artisanal mining in Burkina Faso.

GLOCON’s International Symposium “Global Crises and Conflicts over Resources” was highly successful
Over 100 participants followed GLOCON’s second international symposium with the title “Global Crises and Conflicts over Resources” on 8 th and 9 th February 2018. In 15 contributions on four thematic panels, the keynote speech by Shalini Randeria and the concluding remarks by Ulrich Brand, the relation between global crises and worldwide resource conflicts were debated.

Successfull Workshop on 'Critical Agrarian Studies'
On 12 May 2017 GLOCON held a workshop on Critical Agrarian Studies with researchers from Canada, Great Britain, Argentina, Mexico, the Philippines, Belgium and Germany. Haroon Akram-Lodhi (Trent University, Canada), Ray Bush (University of Leeds, UK), Deborah Johnston (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, UK), Robin Thiers (Ghent University, Belgien) and Henry Veltmeyer (Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada) provided exciting contributions on the relevance of Critical Agrarian Studies for current conflicts over land and mining.

International Symposium "Conflicts over land and global change" a great success
With more than 100 participants, 15 presentations from international scholars from Europe, North America and sub-Saharan Africa, a keynote lecture held by Michael Watts, a comment from Sybille Bauriedl, four thematic panels and concluding remarks from Haroon Akram-Lodhi, Glocon's first international symposium on conflicts over land in the context of global transformation processes, held from December 1-2, 2016 in Berlin, has been a great success.
